Ecological, physiological and life-history traits correlate with genome sizes in decapod crustaceans

چکیده

Crustaceans are characterized by some of the most variable genome sizes among animals. Significant relationships between size and specific eco-physiological morphological features have been described in many crustacean taxa, such as Amphipoda, Ostracoda, Cladocera, Copepoda. A consistent pattern variation is yet to be found, however, one specious order crustaceans, Decapoda. We investigated how related selected life-history traits species belonging this order. analyzed respiratory, excretory, developmental adaptations 179 decapod inhabiting shallow marine, deep freshwater, intertidal, terrestrial habitats. Our results show that significantly larger decapods a direct development. Moreover, Anomura, Astacidea, Brachyura we found (i) living freshwater habitats, (ii) using gills strictly water-breathing organs, (iii) presenting While live waters, intertidal degrees air-breathing adaptations, namely can exchange oxygen with air if wet or branchiostegal lungs, possess an indirect extended development smaller genomes. analyses complexity affects decapods, multiple correlate Brachyura.

The genome sizes of ostracod crustaceans correlate with body size and phylogeny

46 47 Within animals a positive correlation between genome size and body size has been detected in 48 several taxa but not in others, such that it remains unknown how pervasive this pattern may be. 49 Here we provide another example of a positive relationship, in a group of crustaceans whose 50 genome sizes have not previously been investigated. We analyze genome size estimates for 46 51 specie...

Marine reserves: fish life history and ecological traits matter.

Marine reserves are assumed to protect a wide range of species from deleterious effects stemming from exploitation. However, some species, due to their ecological characteristics, may not respond positively to protection. Very little is known about the effects of life history and ecological traits (e.g., mobility, growth, and habitat) on responses of fish species to marine reserves. Using 40 da...

Ecological immunogenetics of life-history traits in a model amphibian

Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes determine immune repertoires and social preferences of vertebrates. Immunological regulation of microbial assemblages associated with individuals influences their sociality, and should also affect their life-history traits. We exposed Xenopus laevis tadpoles to water conditioned by adult conspecifics. Then, we analysed tadpole growth, development and...
